VT Markets review (for Canadian traders)

VT Markets is an offshore CFD and forex broker that accepts Canadian clients and offers high leverage, MetaTrader 5 and cent accounts. It's also a broker our team uses. That's exactly why this review needs to be honest: VT Markets is not registered in Canada. Here are the facts from VT Markets' own site, with worked cost examples, so you can decide for yourself.
Key takeaways
- VT Markets isn't registered with CIRO or any Canadian regulator, so CIPF and Canadian complaint services don't apply.
- Its dealer entity, VT Markets Limited, is licensed by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius.
- Accounts: Standard STP from 1.2 pips with no commission; RAW ECN from 0.0 pips plus $6 per lot round turn; Cent accounts on MT5.
- Leverage is very high (up to 500:1 on accounts, more on gold), which makes small mistakes expensive.
VT Markets at a glance
Regulation
VT Markets is a group of companies. Its Canadian website lists:
| Company | Licence | Role |
|---|---|---|
| VT Markets Limited | Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Mauritius, licence GB23202269 | Full-service investment dealer (the product supplier) |
| VT Markets (Pty) Ltd | Financial Sector Conduct Authority, South Africa, FSP 50865 | Intermediary only; not the counterparty to your trades |
| VT Markets (Pty) Ltd, Dubai Branch | UAE Capital Markets Authority, Category 5 | Introduction and promotion only |
| VTMarkets Ltd (Cyprus) | None (company registration HE436466) | Services such as payments; no trading services |
None of these is registered in Canada. VT Markets also says it doesn't serve residents of the United States and some other countries.
Fake “VT Markets” websites: how to spot them
Scammers copy the names of real brokers. They build look-alike websites, send links by WhatsApp, Telegram or social media, and take deposits that are never seen again. The real VT Markets has nothing to do with these sites, but if you send money to one, the real broker can't help you get it back.
On June 30, 2026, VT Markets published a notice saying it had found “a number of websites and platforms that appear to be using the VT Markets name, branding or other identifying features without authorisation”, and that these are not affiliated with or operated by VT Markets (VT Markets notice).
VT Markets recommends typing its official address into your browser or using its official app, being careful with links in unsolicited messages and ads, and never sharing your password or one-time codes. Its contact address for questions is info@vtmarkets.com.
Its notice doesn't list the fake addresses, so the picture below shows the patterns to watch for rather than real addresses. The Canadian site is vtmarkets.com/en-ca.
How to stay on the real site
- Type the address yourself (www.vtmarkets.com) and bookmark it. Use the bookmark every time.
- Don't click links in ads, direct messages, WhatsApp or Telegram, even if the person seems friendly or claims to be an account manager.
- Check the company name at the bottom of the site and in your client agreement, and match it to a licence on the regulator's own website.
- Never share your password or one-time code with anyone, and never let anyone “help” by taking control of your computer.
- If something feels wrong, stop. Contact the broker through the address you typed yourself, and report the fake site to your provincial securities regulator.
Account types
| Account | Spread from | Commission | Platforms | Minimum deposit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard STP | 1.2 pips | $0 | MT4, MT5 | $100 |
| RAW ECN | 0.0 pips | $6 per lot, round turn | MT4, MT5 | $100 |
| Pro ECN | Raw pricing | Forex and gold from $2 to $4 round turn; $0 on silver and oil | MT5 | Eligibility rules (see below) |
| Cent (STP / ECN) | 1.1 pips / 0.0 pips | $0 / $6 round turn | MT5 | US$50 (shown as 5,000 US cents) |
Base currencies for Standard and RAW include CAD and USD. Minimum trade size is 0.01 lot. Cent accounts cover forex, gold, silver and oil only. Swap-free versions are offered (admin fees may apply), and a demo account is available.
Spreads and commissions, worked out
RAW vs Standard on 0.30 lot of EUR/USD
$3 per pip at 0.30 lot. Standard spread 1.2 pips; RAW spread 0.2 pip plus $6 per lot round turn.
Gold on RAW
XAUUSD is 100 oz per lot. 0.10 lot = 10 oz, so each $0.10 of spread costs $1. Assume a $0.15 spread.

Leverage: the big draw, and the big danger
VT Markets' account pages list leverage up to 500:1, and its gold page lists XAUUSD up to 2000:1 (varies by account, market, region and position size). Canadian-regulated brokers need about 22% margin on gold.
What a $20 gold move does
$1,000 account. 0.10 lot of gold (10 oz). Gold moves $20 against you, a normal day's range.
High leverage let that trade open on a $1,000 account. That doesn't make it a sensible size. At 1% risk ($10), a $20 stop would mean 0.005 lot: too small to place, so you'd need a tighter stop, a bigger account or a cent account. See risk management basics.
Gold at VT Markets
| Symbol | Contract size | Minimum | Trading hours (server time) |
|---|---|---|---|
| XAUUSD | 100 oz per lot | 0.01 lot | Mon–Fri 01:00–24:00 |
| XAUUSD247 | 1 oz per lot | 1 lot | Mon–Sun 00:00–24:00 (weekend trading) |
| GAUUSD | 100 g per lot | 0.01 lot | Mon–Fri 01:00–24:00 |
Platforms and EAs
VT Markets offers MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView, its own app and WebTrader. Because MT5 is available, MT5 EAs, including ours, can run here. Cent accounts are MT5-only, which suits small-scale EA testing.
Deposits and withdrawals
| What VT Markets' help centre says | |
|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | Generally 50 in your account currency (CAD 50, USD 50); account pages list $100 for Standard and RAW |
| Minimum withdrawal | Generally 40 (CAD 40, USD 40) |
| Deposit time | Cards, e-wallets, crypto: within about 60 minutes. Local bank transfer: within 1 business day. International wire: 3–7 business days |
| Withdrawal time | 1–7 working days after approval, depending on method |
| Withdrawal fees | First bank wire each month free, then about US$20 per wire; Skrill 1%; Neteller 2% |
| Deposit fees | No handling fee from VT Markets; your bank or provider may charge |
What a withdrawal really costs
You withdraw twice in one month by bank wire, then once by Neteller (US$500).
Plan withdrawals: one wire a month is free.
Negative balance protection
VT Markets' help centre says it offers negative balance protection: after a stop-out, a negative balance can be reset to zero, automatically or on request, once all positions are closed. It also says this follows an internal review, depends on the terms and the entity your account is with, and isn't compensation for losses. PAMM/MAM accounts aren't eligible for the self-service reset.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
| Might suit | Not for |
|---|---|
| Experienced traders who understand and accept the offshore risk | Anyone who wants Canadian protection (CIPF) |
| Small-scale MT5 EA testing on a cent account | US residents (not accepted) |
| Traders who want RAW pricing and MT5 | Beginners tempted to use the full leverage |
US readers: in the US, retail forex dealers must be registered with the CFTC and be NFA members. Offshore brokers like this one are not, and generally don't accept US residents. See our Canadian and US regulated reviews instead.

How to check this broker yourself
Offshore brokers aren't on Canadian registers, so checking them takes a little more work. Here is how to check VT Markets yourself in about fifteen minutes:
- Find the licence on the home regulator's own website, not on the broker's site:
- FSC Mauritius register of licensees: search VT Markets Limited (GB23202269).
- FSCA South Africa: search FSP 50865.
- Check which company holds your account. VT Markets' site lists the Mauritius-licensed VT Markets Limited as the product supplier, with the South African company acting only as an intermediary. Your client agreement names the company that holds your money. Make sure it matches a licence you found in step 1.
- Search Canadian warnings. Check the BCSC Investment Caution List, the CSA investor alerts (including AMF alerts), the OSC investor warnings and the CSA's registration search.
- Read the bonus and withdrawal terms before you accept any bonus. Bonus credit often has conditions and can be removed.
- Test a small withdrawal early, before you add more money. A broker that pays out smoothly at the start is a good sign; delays are a warning.
Common mistakes
- Using the full leverage. Size from your stop and a fixed % risk.
- Skipping the registration check. Check who holds your account and where it is licensed first.
- Accepting a bonus without reading the terms. Bonus credit can be removed.
- Running a gold EA on XAUUSD247. Weekend gold behaves differently.
- Depositing a lot before a test withdrawal. Withdraw a small amount first.
- Assuming CIPF covers you. It doesn't, for offshore brokers.
- Following a link someone sent you. VT Markets itself warns about fake sites; type vtmarkets.com yourself.
Printable checklist
- I typed vtmarkets.com myself and bookmarked it.
- I know CIPF and Canadian complaint services don't cover me here.
- I checked the FSC Mauritius register myself.
- I know which VT company my client agreement names.
- I compared Standard and RAW costs for my typical trade.
- I size trades from my stop, not from the leverage offered.
- I read the bonus terms (or declined the bonus).
- I made a small test withdrawal.
