Eightcap is an offshore CFD broker with MetaTrader 4 and 5, TradingView and TradeLocker, Standard and Raw accounts, and high leverage (varies by region and account). Its global site lists companies licensed in the Bahamas, Seychelles and Mauritius. It isn't registered in Canada, and its own site doesn't say whether it accepts Canadians or which company would hold a Canadian account. Here are the facts from Eightcap's own site, worked cost examples, and how to check it yourself.

Key takeaways

  • Eightcap isn't registered with CIRO or any Canadian regulator, so CIPF and Canadian complaint services don't apply.
  • Its global site lists Eightcap Global Limited (SCB Bahamas), Eightcap International Ltd (FSA Seychelles) and Eightcap International Trading (FSC Mauritius).
  • Standard: spreads from 1.0 pips, no commission. Raw: from 0.0 pips plus $3.50 per lot per side.
  • Gold (XAUUSD) has no commission on either account, so its cost is the spread.
  • Margin call at 80% and stop-out at 50%; minimum deposit $100; Eightcap says it charges no internal deposit or withdrawal fees.
  • Watch for fakes: the OSC (November 18, 2024) and BCSC (April 30, 2025) warned about “Eightcap Invest”, which is not Eightcap. The real site is eightcap.com.

Why there are no star ratingsWe don't give star ratings. We haven't got a measured, repeatable way to score brokers yet, and a number without a method would just be an opinion dressed up as a fact. Instead, the facts are in the tables, with links to where we found them.

Regulation: who you'd be dealing with

CompanyRegulatorRegistered address

Eightcap International LtdFinancial Services Authority, Seychelles (SD100)Mahe, Seychelles
Eightcap International TradingFinancial Services Commission, Mauritius (GB25204603)Ebene, Mauritius

None of these is registered in Canada. Eightcap's site doesn't say which company serves which country. Your client agreement will name the one that holds your account.

What about ASIC, the FCA and CySEC?

Eightcap's home page says it is “globally regulated in multiple jurisdictions including ASIC, FCA and CySec”. Its About page does list Eightcap Pty Ltd (ASIC, Australia, AFSL 391441), Eightcap Group Ltd (FCA, UK, FRN 921296) and Eightcap EU Ltd (CySEC, Cyprus, licence 246/14). But the global site a Canadian lands on names only the Bahamas, Seychelles and Mauritius companies at the bottom of every page. Don't assume Australian, UK or EU protections apply to you; check the company in your own agreement.

Does it accept Canadians?Eightcap's own site doesn't confirm it. Check that Canada is in the country list when you sign up, and which company your agreement names.

Fake “Eightcap” websites: how to spot them

Scammers copy the names of real brokers. They build look-alike websites, send links by WhatsApp, Telegram or social media, and take deposits that are never seen again. The real Eightcap has nothing to do with these sites, but if you send money to one, the real broker can't help you get it back.

Make sure you're on www.eightcap.com

Two Canadian regulators have warned about a look-alike called “EightCap Invest”, which is not Eightcap:

  • The Ontario Securities Commission issued an investor warning on November 18, 2024 about “EightCap aka EightCapInvest” at eightcapinvest.com and EightCapInvest.io, which it says is not registered in Ontario to trade in securities (OSC warning).
  • The BC Securities Commission added “Eightcap Invest” to its Investment Caution List on April 30, 2025, describing it as having “no relation to Eightcap Group Ltd., https://www.eightcap.com”. The website it lists is trading.eightcapinvest.io (BCSC notice).

The real broker's address is eightcap.com, with nothing added. If a site, app or “account manager” uses any other address, don't deposit.

Which address is the real Eightcap?www.eightcap.com✓Officialeightcapinvest.com✕Not iteightcapinvest.io✕Not ittrading.eightcapinvest.io✕Not itA padlock only means the connection is encrypted. It doesn't mean the site is the real broker.
Read the whole address, letter by letter. Extra words like “invest”, “trade” or “pro” are a red flag.

How to stay on the real site

  1. Type the address yourself (www.eightcap.com) and bookmark it. Use the bookmark every time.
  2. Don't click links in ads, direct messages, WhatsApp or Telegram, even if the person seems friendly or claims to be an account manager.
  3. Check the company name at the bottom of the site and in your client agreement, and match it to a licence on the regulator's own website.
  4. Never share your password or one-time code with anyone, and never let anyone “help” by taking control of your computer.
  5. If something feels wrong, stop. Contact the broker through the address you typed yourself, and report the fake site to your provincial securities regulator.

Six steps. The first and the last two protect you the most.
  1. Type eightcap.com yourself. Don't follow a link from an ad or a message (see the fake-sites section above).
  2. Check the country list. If Canada isn't offered, stop there.
  3. Read which company you're signing with. It should be one of the companies in the regulation table, and you should be able to find its licence on the regulator's own site.
  4. Choose Standard or Raw, and CAD as the base currency if you'll deposit Canadian dollars (more on that below).
  5. Verify your identity on the real site only. Never email ID documents to someone who contacted you first.
  6. Start small. Deposit a small amount, place a few tiny trades, then withdraw some of it before you add more.

Costs, worked out

One 1.00-lot EUR/USD round trip at Eightcap (example spreads)Standard, 1.0-pip spread$10.00Raw, 0.2 pip + $7$9.001.0 pip is Eightcap's 'from' Standard spread; real spreads vary. Raw commission $3.50 per side.
With these example spreads, Raw is slightly cheaper per lot. The gap depends on the real Standard spread.
Worked example

Raw vs Standard on 0.30 lot of EUR/USD

$3 per pip at 0.30 lot. Standard spread 1.0 pip; Raw spread 0.2 pip plus $3.50 per lot per side.

Standard: 1.0 × $3 = $3.00 Raw: 0.2 × $3 = $0.60 + 0.30 × $7 = $2.10 → $2.70 Saving on Raw: $0.30 a trade

A small saving. If the Standard spread at your trading hours is wider than 1.0 pip, Raw saves more.

Worked example

Gold costs only the spread

Eightcap's XAUUSD page lists no commission on Standard or Raw. Assume a $0.20 spread on 10 oz (0.10 lot at 100 oz per lot; check the contract size in MT5).

Cost per trade = $0.20 × 10 oz = $2.00 (no commission)
A month of EUR/USD costs: 40 trades of 0.20 lotStandard at 1.0 pip$80Standard at 1.4 pips$112Raw, 0.2 pip + $3.50/side$72Example spreads. 0.20 lot of EUR/USD = $2 per pip. Your real spreads depend on the time of day.
Over a month, small differences add up. A Standard spread that's wider at your hours costs the most.
Worked example

A month of trading, both accounts

40 round-trip trades a month, each 0.20 lot of EUR/USD ($2 per pip).

Standard at 1.0 pip: 40 × (1.0 × $2) = $80 Standard at 1.4 pips: 40 × (1.4 × $2) = $112 Raw at 0.2 pip: 40 × (0.2 × $2 + 0.2 × $7) = 40 × $1.80 = $72

Raw is cheaper in both cases here, and the gap grows when Standard spreads widen. Check the real spreads at the hours you trade on the demo before you choose.

For learning only. Brokers differ in contract sizes and rounding, so always check your broker's contract specification.

Leverage, margin call and stop-out

Eightcap's XAUUSD page lists high leverage, which varies by region and account. With high leverage, it's important to know when the broker steps in:

Account with $1,000 balance and $1,000 margin used: when do the alarms go off?Margin call at 80%equity $800Stop-out at 50%equity $500Margin level = equity ÷ used margin. Below 50%, positions start being closed.
Margin call at 80% margin level; stop-out at 50%.
Worked example

How a stop-out happens

$1,000 balance. You open trades needing $1,000 of margin (far too big, but it's possible with high leverage). Margin level = equity ÷ used margin.

Margin call when equity falls to 80% × $1,000 = $800 (a $200 loss) Stop-out when equity falls to 50% × $1,000 = $500 (a $500 loss)

Half the account gone before the broker closes anything, and a fast market can go further. Use far less margin and a stop on every trade. See leverage and margin.

How little margin 0.10 lot of gold needs, and why that's risky

Gold at $4,116.80 (the price shown on Eightcap's page on October 21, 2026). 0.10 lot = 10 oz. At the maximum leverage listed, margin is 0.2%.

Position value = 10 oz × $4,116.80 = $41,168 Margin needed = $41,168 × 0.2% = about $82 A $10 move in gold = 10 oz × $10 = $100 profit or loss

Only $82 of margin, but every $10 move in gold is $100. Gold can move $30 or more in a day. On a $1,000 account, that's 30% in one day. Size from your stop, not from the margin. See our gold trading guide.

Holding gold overnightThe long swap was negative on October 21, 2026, so holding a buy overnight cost money each night. Check the current swap in MT5 (right-click XAUUSD, then Specification) before holding a trade for days.

Base currency: why CAD can save you money

Eightcap offers accounts in AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, NZD, SGD and USD. If you deposit and withdraw Canadian dollars, a CAD account avoids converting your money twice.

Worked example

CAD into a USD account

You send C$2,000 to a USD account, then later take it back to your Canadian bank. Suppose the conversion costs 1.5% each way (an example; ask your bank and Eightcap what applies to you).

Going in: C$2,000 × 1.5% = C$30 Coming out: C$2,000 × 1.5% = C$30 Total: about C$60, before you place a single trade

Your profits and losses on USD pairs and gold are still worked out in US dollars, then shown in CAD on a CAD account. That's normal and you can't avoid it, but you can avoid paying to convert your deposit and withdrawal.

Platforms and EAs

Eightcap offers MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView and TradeLocker. Its MT5 page highlights Expert Advisors (EAs), 21 timeframes and over 80 built-in indicators, so MT5 EAs, including ours, can run on its MT5 accounts. Eightcap also says scalping is allowed.

MetaTrader 5EAs, backtesting, gold and forexYes
MetaTrader 4Older EAs built for MT4Yes (MT4 versions only)
TradingViewCharting and trading from chartsNo MT5 EAs

An EA runs only while MetaTrader is open and connected. For an EA that trades around the clock, use a computer that stays on, or a VPS (a rented computer in a data centre). Ask Eightcap what VPS options it offers before you rely on one.

Check the symbolIn MT5, right-click XAUUSD and choose Specification to see the contract size, digits and swap before running any EA.

How to check this broker yourself

Offshore brokers aren't on Canadian registers, so checking them takes a little more work. Here is how to check Eightcap yourself in about fifteen minutes:

Check Eightcap yourself before you deposit1Home regulatorFind the licence onthe regulator's register2Your entityWhich company holdsyour account?3Canadian warningsBCSC, AMF, OSC andCSA searches4Test withdrawalWithdraw a smallamount early
  1. Find the licence on the home regulator's own website, not on the broker's site:
  2. Check which company holds your account. Eightcap's site lists three licensed companies but doesn't say which serves Canada. Your client agreement names the company that holds your money. Make sure it matches a licence you found in step 1.
  3. Search Canadian warnings. Check the BCSC Investment Caution List, the CSA investor alerts (including AMF alerts), the OSC investor warnings and the CSA's registration search.
  4. Read the bonus and withdrawal terms before you accept any bonus. Bonus credit often has conditions and can be removed.
  5. Test a small withdrawal early, before you add more money. A broker that pays out smoothly at the start is a good sign; delays are a warning.
No Canadian safety netIf an offshore broker fails or refuses to pay, CIPF does not cover you, and Canadian complaint services (such as OBSI) can't act for you. Only deposit money you can afford to lose.

Common mistakes

  1. Assuming Canada is accepted. Eightcap's site doesn't confirm it; check at sign-up.
  2. Waiting for the stop-out to protect you. At 50% you've already lost a lot.
  3. Comparing only 'from' spreads. Add commission and compare total cost.
  4. Using the full leverage available. Size from your stop.
  5. Expecting instant withdrawals. Allow for the 1–2 day review.
  6. Assuming CIPF covers you. It doesn't, for offshore brokers.
  7. Signing up through a link someone sent you. Type eightcap.com yourself; “Eightcap Invest” is not Eightcap.
  8. Opening a USD account for CAD money. Choose CAD to avoid double conversion.
  9. Sizing gold from the margin. $82 of margin can still mean $100 per $10 move.

Printable checklist

  • I typed eightcap.com myself and bookmarked it (not eightcapinvest or any other address).
  • I confirmed Canada is accepted on the sign-up form.
  • I know which Eightcap company my agreement names.
  • I checked that company's licence on the regulator's own site.
  • I searched Canadian warning lists.
  • I compared Standard and Raw costs for my trades.
  • I understand margin call (80%) and stop-out (50%).
  • I size trades from my stop.
  • I checked the gold contract size and swap in MT5.
  • I made a small test withdrawal.
